In The Spotlight: Cumming, GA

Located in Forsyth County, Georgia, Cumming is a part of the Atlanta metro area and hosts a population of 5,430 (2010 Census). Cumming is a vibrant community with a downhome, southern feel located just outside of the faster-paced Atlanta metro scene. Cumming is charming and beautiful, and due to its proximity to major business centers in Atlanta, has become an oft sought-after location for those searching for their dream homes in the Atlanta real estate market.

Residents here have strong sense of community tied together with traditional family values. The folk that live in Cumming enjoy spacious home sites and gorgeous views of Georgia mountains and lakes, all of which are surrounded by national parks and the ever-popular Chattahoochee River. Cumming, GA: A Vibrant History

The area in where Cumming resides was inhabited by Cherokee tribes. Later, Cumming was incorporated in 1834 after Colonel William Cumming, distinguished officer in the War of 1812. A historical site in Georgia that benefitted massively from the discovery of gold in the 1800s, Cumming now exists as a commuter town to Atlanta after the city completed the Georgia 400 State Highway.

Part of Cumming’s beauty and charm is the Suwanee Mountain Preserve that is made up of over 900 acres of hiking trails, tree canopies, playgrounds, picnic areas, and an amphitheater. Bald Ridge Marina and Habersham Marina sit on the nearby Lake Lanier, a popular destination for boating, fishing, swimming, and camping for the families that enjoy the relaxed, southern living in Cumming.

The Cumming Playhouse hosts entertaining performances throughout the year, and liver performances at a variety of venues around Cumming are popular with families that live in the area. Balloons Over Georgia is located in Cumming, perfect for those who wish to tour the skies of Georgia in a hot air balloon. Locals enjoy the Lanier and Country Land Golf Clubs as well as the Cumming Fairgrounds, which hosts antique care and tractor shows, rodeos, the Indian Festival, the annual Fourth of July Celebration, and number of country fairs throughout the year.
